Tsubame BHB undertakes green ammonia projects in Laos targeting the manufacture of green ammonia and green fertilizers. The investigations covered by the MOC will be conducted with the cooperation of the Laos Ministry of Energy and Mines. They will focus on supply and demand for green power generated by hydropower plants in Laos, as well as business profitability and supply chains for ammonia and fertilizers in that country, with the goal of installing Tsubame BHB’s small ammonia manufacturing equipment.

Laos has put forward the “Green Growth Strategy of Lao PDR” targeting 2030, aiming for the creation of a sustainable green society and robust socio-economic development that will lead to improved quality of life, the creation of employment, and increased income for citizens. The Laos Ministry of Energy and Mines has confirmed that a partnership between the government and the private sector is an important element in accelerating the realization of a sustainable green society and expects that the green ammonia project being studied by Tsubame BHB in Laos will also contribute to building the society described above.

In 2020, Tsubame BHB was selected by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the SDGs Business Supporting Survey (2020) and is conducting a “SDGs Business Supporting Survey for local fertilizer production utilizing surplus hydropower in Laos.” The MOC has been undertaken as part of these basic survey activities.
